Magician's Equipment Part 2

Household Items

There are many household items you can use to perform different magic tricks with such as Cutlery, Sugar Cubes, glasses, matches, thimbles and dice.

Cutlery

You can use cutlery for allsorts of different effects within magic such as levitation. The main one I would have to say is probably mind bending the cutlery. You will have seen many magicians bend spoons and forks without even touching them and this is a great effect once you learn it.

Sugar Cubes

Sugar Cubes are used a lot mainly for disappearances but if you use your imagination then you will be able to come up with loads of ideas in using sugar cubes.

Glasses

Glasses usually are used as a prop for the trick and not actually used in the trick. You could do anything from appearances to disappearances. Again you can use your imagination and incorporate them into your performance.

Matches

I use matches mainly for a flourish in my magic or as miss-direction. This is because if anyone sees a bright light they automatically look to see what it is, so this becomes a great miss-direction device.

Thimbles

I use thimbles for close-up sleight of hand. If you go up to anyone and make it disappear and appear again, you can just see they faces drop in amazement. Thimbles are mainly just used for Close-up magic. You can just go up to a spectator and show off your sleight of hand.

Dice

You can do allsorts with dice too. Appear and vanish, use the numbers on the dice to do a trick and use them with other household items to create a trick. Whatever you do jus remember to use your imagination and you will come up with really good tricks.

Rope and String

There are allsorts of different tricks you can do with rope such as holding both ends and trying to tie a knot without letting go of both ends. Also you can use rope to help you with a trick such as tie somebody’s hands while u do the trick etc. if I were you I would buy the professional rope for doing rope tricks as it’s strong and doesn’t fray as easy as the standard string.

Money

Coin magic is really big out there, and there are hundreds of tricks and sleights you can do with coins. The good thing about money is that it is ready available for you to use as you can find coins on the floor sometimes. Some tricks require you to cut banknotes up and glue them together, but for practice you cud jus use paper until you can do the trick really well.

Stationary

If you’re making your own props, making spares or special props you will need some of these items of stationary, such as paper, scissors, envelopes, pens and pencils and different tapes and glues.
