Cut & Restored Rope
Effect:
A length of rope is cut in half with a pair of scissors and is magically restored to its original condition.
Method:
Before you start, have a pair of scissors in your pocket and have a piece of rope about 10cm, folded in half, in your primary hand. Make sure the folded bit of rope is hidden well.
To begin take a long piece of rope, at least a metre long, and hold it at both ends to show the audience that it’s a solid piece of rope. Then fold the big piece of rope in half and put it in your primary hand as well but when you leave the loop out of the end of your hand for the bit you are going to cut, make sure it’s the loop form the 10cm bit of rope. Now with the back of your palm faced to the audience, they will think the long piece of rope is folded in half in your hand and is ready to cut. In fact, the big piece is in your hand and it’s the little piece of rope that is sticking out of the end ready to cut. Then take your scissors out of your pocket and cut the loop at the top so now you will have two ends of rope sticking out of the top of your hand. Now consistently cut the 10cm bit of rope in little bits until all that has fallen on the floor. Now you can put your scissors back in your pocket and pretend to rub on the rope where you have just cut. All there is to do now is to present the rope fully restored.
Remember keep practicing until you get it smooth and so you don’t have to think about it.
